Ok so I just dug this out of my basement because I want to get it back in action! I've had it since 1991 and I remember as a kid I used to absolutely LOVE zipping this beast around the yard! I even saved the box it came in as like a makeshift "case" for when I would bring it over my cousin's etc. So now here it is, box is banged up but whatever! I can't wait to get it running again!

Just as I left it... with dirt on the treads and all! Ha!

So just a few questions for those of you who are into vintage RC, should I even charge up this battery and attempt to run it? It's literally the ORIGINAL battery from 26 years ago...

Is there anything I should watch for when running it? Like, are the boards any different etc? I never had a problem running it when I was younger so I almost expect it to start right up and go. It's only even been stored in my cool dry basement.

Thanks all!! Hope you enjoy the picks and the flash back!!

Ps: If this is a flashback... yes, your old too. ;)

The battery is actually in great shape with no signs of corrosion or leakage:

Hahahaha... ! I found exactly the same Tyco Traxx last week too - amazing! And the battery appears to be OK too!!

I remember those very well. Used to have one myself. Wish I had kept it. I had about 10 different ones back in those days. Ended up giving them to a woman my wife worked with at the time for her son.

I really hope things have changed over the past 26 years...

What are my options in getting a better 9.6v battery these days? Do they last much longer on a full charge?

I'm sure that's a NiCd or NiMH battery. Those do not fair well left unattended that long. Probably will not hold a charge but shouldn't burst into flames either. You probably could make up or find a LiPo battery pack with similar voltage and better capacity for the size. You'd need a compatible balance charger though.

I ended up charging up the original battery and it works perfectly!! Now I just gotta find a better battery option for more time. The original only lasts like 15min.
