Tracking Antenna?

Has anyone built a tracking antenna for any of the Phantoms? I've builds for RC purposes, but they all use Mission Planner, would this be compatible with the Phantom?

Aren't tracking antennas primarily used for fixed wing where they fly a long way away? 10 to 20 miles. No need for such things on a phantom with a limited range.
