The maps in the DJI apps suck

In fact there have been a few changes to the DJI apps (Go 4 and GS Pro) since the recent firmware/software upgrades that have, frankly, turned fun flying into hours of frustration trying to overcome or work around issues or just pack up and go home. New versions of software are supposed to improve things, not make them worse. Maybe I'm expecting too much from free apps but I use DJI apps not because they are free but simply because they should be the best people to produce apps to control their own drones. I am starting to think otherwise. Nothing wrong with the user interface and the functionality, just the way they apps work in the background that is just --- wrong.

The most recent frustrations since the upgrades are that the apps will not always remember the maps I have cached before travelling. In remote areas with no access to internet, it is so frustrating to find a greyed out screen when you get to your destination. On the occasions that the apps do rememper the pre-loaded maps, I find that they are so out of date, they don't resemble the terrain either. Google Maps are much more up to date.

DJI, you produce fantastic drones but your supportware is reducing what should be a fantastic flying experience and I think that the issues should be an easy fix for you. How about it?

Unique, yeah you are finding out what most of us already know. I switched to Litchi in November and have never tried to update DJI GO since then when it refused to run on the very device I had been flying with it on. The Litchi has not required me to upgrade firmware or any other such requirement. I believe if you would try Litchi, and yes it costs a whopping $24.00 or so, you won't even think about going back to DJI GO. If their firmware is as bad as everyone says it is, then they must have let their customer support people design it because their "customer service" is most likely the worst in any industry. They will lie to you when telling the truth is quicker and easier. I fought with them the entire month of February and never got a straight answer from them.

If your device runs Android and you have root, you can get Google Maps back.
Thanks. Worth thinking about. I have been an Android guy forever and resisted Apple out of principle but was steered towards the iPad I am using now. Should have stuck to my instincts though. The device overheats so easily and feels lethargic at everything I do with it. I reset to factory today, hoping it will make a difference. Your advice about the maps alone is tempting me to explore the Android option. Thank you.

Thank you. I am a relative newbie and don't have any experience outside of the P4 and DJI software to control it. You would think that if they have the smarts to produce the hardware, they could do better with the software. I'm pretty sure that if the developers at DJI sat down and though about it, they could improve it so much for very little cost or effort. I just looked at a youtube video for Litchi. Looks useful.

Thanks ianzone. I have found the location you mentioned but there is nothing there to allow me to download maps. I am using iPad and from what i am hearing, the interface is a bit different from Android. It has been suggested that there are more flexible map options on an Android device and so I might look into changing.
