Stream live video to VLC

Has anyone tried streaming the live video to a local network player like VLC? I know on the P3P you can live stream to YouTube but I'm trying to integrate the video into another software system and if I can get it into VLC then there's a good chance I can stream into the software. (Live Earth Software)

I would love to try this. Youtube streaming works awful for me. Laggy and a 5 minute delay
