Storing partly charged batteries (P4)

I've stored two batteries in with my phantom in the polystyrene case. I don't use my phantom every day, and there are periods where it won't be used for a couple of weeks also. Is this a good idea or should they be in a ventilated area?

I had stored 3 fully charged batteries in my backpack for nearly a month. All went through the discharge cycle and nothing happened to the styrofoam due to the minimal heat generated in closed backpack.
