Sourcing an aftermarket Phantom 3 battery

Hi, little back story (skip to the end for the actual question): I have had a Phantom 3 Standard since 2018 or 2019, bought it used for 190 €. It came with one battery iirc and I bought another battery new from the store right when I bought the drone. I have been flying every now and then but recently got very much into aerial mapping and photogrammetry since my studies covered that. Now the drone is proving to be actually useful, not only just for cool aerial shots.

My two batteries hold up charge well but the combined flying time being about 40-45 minutes is not enough for larger mapping projects so I am strongly considering buying one or two extra batteries. Otherwise the drone (and its camera) is very solid for my use case but I have also considered getting a newer and smaller DJI drone but for now I think it's worth it to "upgrade" the Phantom 3 standard.

Stores around here (Finland) don't sell official DJI Phantom 3 batteries anymore but the internet is full of aftermarket batteries in different price ranges. My question is which one should I get? Apparently PowerExtra is good according to some post on the forum but I cannot find that brand on the German Amazon. I would like to hear suggestions for "proven good" batteries, preferably with links to store pages. I am expecting some of them not shipping to Finland but at least I'm hoping some of them will. :) Another possible choice is to buy used OEM batteries here in Finland. One seller near me is asking 60 € and claims the battery is in good condition.

Not sure if the link above will work, but 'ExpertPower' brand of drone batteries are available from the Ubuy site in Finland. Expert Power batteries are well known here in the US for being reliable in DJI drones like the P3S.

Additional link below for ubuy.fi in Finland also.

Additional info:

Both Powerextra and ExpertPower are popular third-party drone battery manufacturers, but ExpertPowergenerally has the edge in build quality, while Powerextra is favored for budget value. The choice largely depends on your drone model and risk tolerance for aftermarket batteries.

ExpertPower
  • Pros: Known for using higher-quality terminal pins that reduce resistance and resist melting. They generally perform closer to OEM battery intelligence.
  • Cons: Flight times and charging metrics can occasionally fluctuate. Users often note a "tight fit" when inserting and removing them from drones.
  • Details: Shop for them on ExpertPower Direct.
Powerextra
  • Pros: Extremely budget-friendly, often costing 30% to 50% less than OEM batteries while providing similar or slightly extended flight times.
  • Cons: Quality control can be hit-or-miss. Users sometimes report slightly inaccurate remaining battery percentage readouts or a higher rate of DOA (dead on arrival) units.
Important Considerations
Third-party batteries carry inherent risks. Always calibrate them by doing a few short test flights close to the ground, use the original manufacturer charger where possible, and avoid pushing them in extreme weather conditions.

Yes, Welcome!
I bought a battery last year, I can look up where I bought it?

I have used the PowerExtra brand for years on my P3S and currently still have one in use. Some have been retired due to high charge cycles but all of them have been reliable and all of them outlasted the original DJI OEM battery in charge cycles. The ExpertPower battery mentioned above also seems like a reliable battery.

If you cannot get batteries from Amazon, they you might want to try AliExpress. I have not used them to order P3 batteries but I have heard of others who have good luck with them.

With regard to aerial mapping on the P3S, I have experimented with it for fun using Dronelink and some other software to do a few mapping missions.

Chris
