Single joystick on controller?

Go man, go.

I've got the FC40 with the 5.8 and I don't think I want to go with any of the "High Tech" stuff DJI has to offer.
Loving my bird with dumb batteries and a little brain that DJI can't program.

I did some stuff with Mad Catz, years ago, and they seemed to be on the ball then.
Much of my searching yesterday lead me to some of their equipment. Am I way off?

Has anyone gotten a single joystick like those used by PC's for flight control?
Rather than using the dual sticks in the controller?
I have seen a couple of videos where it's being done.
But how?
