The FAA is holding some type of Press Conference at 1pm EST today so we will know (hopefully) the facts today.

1). The new rules pertain to COMMERCIAL USE ONLY.
2). You no longer need to have a Pilot's license. They are creating an exam and operator certificate specifically for Drones.
3). You will be required to take an exam. I'm sure by August they will hav PLENTY of places eager to take your money to adminster the test. We don't know yet the cost of this exam.
4). This superceeds ALL 333 Exemptions as of LATE AUGUST (no exact date set yet). As of the effective date, or "start date", your 333 automatically expires. They probably will stop accepting 333 applications now and void those in process as it is now a moot point to have a 333 as of late AUgust....2 months from now.
This should result in an exponential increase in the number of people who can do Commercial photography with drones.
Great news if you want to join the wave. bad news if you were already making money doing so with a 333.

Wrong. You can fly under your existing 333 until it expires. Directly from the FAA
"Section 333 holders may continue using their exemptions until the exemption expires. If you have filed a petition for amendment to your exemption, the FAA will be contacting you individually to inform you about the status of your petition."
The 333 Exemption process is not going away it's just not being used to allow "standard commercial" UAS operations. We still need the ability to request and get a 333 exemption for non-standard things to do with flight. Examples would be beyond VLOS, Night Flights, Flying over crowds etc. There is always an "exemption process" because there are times when you need to be able to do something outside the regulations and you just have to demonstrate HOW to do them safely and WHY it does not pose at threat to John Q. Public.
