Hello everybody New to the group
I just bought a Phantom 3 pro with GL300C controller and i want to set it up and hopefully not have not have to deal with some problems that i have herd and read about.
I am not going to do anything fancy. I have been building and flying R/C aircraft and Helicopters for plenty of years. I love inshore fishing and would like to use the drone to drop my baits and then use return home feature, Maybe take a few pictures. I been thinking about buying a older iPad
But what model will work best with the Go app. Also what firmware should i use. Ive read the older firmware is better then the latest. Not sure what is loaded on the controller and craft now. I have been able to fly it manually for a bit and hover but haven't got to use the Go app
I wanted to add im really not that Tec savvy and like to keep things as basic as i can
All the help will be greatly appreciated

I'm pretty positive that any iPad with USB C port will not work. I bought an iPad mini 6 and had to return it as it wouldn't work with my Phantom 4 Pro. There are threads that say using a particular USB-A to USB-C adaptor will work, but I didn't find that to be true. I wound up buying an iPad Mini 5 through Walmart, the only place I could find it, looks like they're still showing Refurb Mini 5's at Walmart. Personally I think that a full size iPad is too big & heavy to mount on the controller, unless you mount it to the stand. I use a Hoodman sun shade with my Mini 5 to be able to see perfectly in bright sun. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the response. After a few more hr's of research im figuring the iPad Air as for if i pick up a Phantom 4 it will work for that also

This sounds very unlikely.
There are a lot of users recommending the Mini 6 here:

Thats very interesting Meta Ive done a lot of research on the Mini 6 and seems its like 50/50 if the people like them or not I was able to talk to a Tec at DJI and he recommended the Ipad air over the Mini I think it comes down to personal choice were you fly and what you wanting to do I plan on borrowing a mini before i buy a tablet More then likely i might go with the iPad air 2 Its is also listed to use for the Go app I hope to get more Input on this as well as best firmware for the set up

There are those who think bigger is better, but others prefer the smaller and lighter screen for easy handling.
I myself have flown with an 8 inch tablet for 10 years and think that's perfect and plenty big enough.

There is no "best firmware" ... any version should be as good as any other.

I was using a mini 4 IPad. worked great until it died. I bought a newer IP and quickly discovered that anything passed IP5 won't work. IPmini 5 does work and that is what i am using now.

i can say with hand on heart that the ipad mini 6 (15.6) DOES NOT work with a P3P, i havent tested it with the advanced yet, which is a bit disappointing, i was hoping for a large screen but im currently stuck with a samsung s7, I have a range of phones and will test them all and do a video on it at some point

The tablet you use doesn't have to work with the drone.
It just has the work with the app.
The app works equally well with the P3 Pro and P3 Advanced

If it flies fine with no issues.....do NOT update the firmware.....even if the app asks you to....or says 'update available'. Firmware updates sometimes do more harm than good.

......and,..Welcome to the Forum!

Ok so i got me a refurbished iPad mini 4 from Amazon I downloaded the Go app and cant seem to get to the camera view all i get is how to connect screen. This has already been very frustrating for me . I have deleted the go app 5 times and reinstalled it from the DJI web site I have tried 3 different data cables. Is the go app just outdated. Is their another app that will work or a different version of the go app that will work Sure need some help on this i have looked at ton of videos for fixes but no help. I needed to add i made a mistake It was a iPad air 2 I think it may have been the problem. I ended up sending it back and getting a iPad Mini 4

I can only speak for what works for me and my P3's.

(All are running very, very old firmware versions from 2015/2016) None of that Geofencing garbage that DJI imposed back then with hidden controls in firmware updates. All fly normally. No issues.

Device : iPad 8th generation running iOS version 18.7.1
DJIGo : version 3.1.68

I do NOT update firmware, App versions, or IOS versions due to potential compatibility risks.

Hopefully other members will chime in with their successful versions and combinations as well. Good luck....👍👍

Hey their Captain thank you for the imput. The Dji Go app that i download is 3.1.80 would it be safe to try and find the version you use, Ive only read a little about downgrading and most of the stuff that's out their I need to get from questionable site,s
Im pretty sure my firmware is 1.11.20. I really hoping i can get what i got working if not i guess i need to look for another route to take. Or just fly the thing without any apps I just wont get to see what my camera
is looking at but will still drop bait off the coast

Don't even consider firmware updates for the drone at the moment.

The issue may be the mini 4 you are working with, or the iOS version the mini is running not being compatible with the current DJIGo app version you have (3.1.80.)

Give it some time and see if other members list their GoApp/iOS versions that are working for them.

This has nothing to do with firmware or any version of the app.
Any version of the app or firmware will give you a camera view.
The reason you see a how to connect screen, is because the tablet is not getting any connection and the connection comes through the cable.
I know you said you've tried three cables, but I'd try another and ensure that it is a data cable, not just a charging cable.
I can't help with using an Apple device, but perhaps the suggestions here might be helpful:

Hi, @68Moparmuscle, to keep on the safe side, try and use the latest model of iPad you can afford. I wouldn't suggest using anything older than an iPad mini3

Quote" the tablet you use doesnt have to work with the drone"
sorry what, of course it has to work with the drone thats the point of the app
The latest app version DOES NOT work on the Ipad mini 6 as stated in my post.

In post #12, the OP explained that he has bought a Mini 4 so that's of no relevance to him (if it's true).

The tablet doesn't have to work with the drone.
The tablet has to work with the app and if it does, the app and controller are what has to work with the drone.

Happy to report I got my refurbished iPad mini 4 today from amazon, Downloaded the Go app and i am in the first time. Yaaaa Thank you all for the comments and help. Now is on to learning what this go app is all about.
The only thing i don't care for so far is the limits on the height the min is 20 meters and id rather fly lower over the water for doping baits, Id like to be 20 ft or so off the water. Any suggestions will be of help
Thanks again for your comments guy's
