Hi Harleydude,
please,
I need to have more specifications by you about this argument,
cause I need to choose an alternative to Phantom 4Pro that could fit accurately for stereo-photogrammetry.
First off, anybody doing photogrammetry for a living should have a firm grasp on all things photography. One very basic facet of photography is the shutter and how it works. The difference between a mechanical shutter vs. an electronic or "rolling" shutter is PROFOUND in the photogrammetry game.
In the simplest terms, the mechanical shutter takes a snapshot of the entire frame all at once. So if you have a camera on a tripod in a static position with a shutter speed of 1/1000 and you take a photo of a 20'-long truck driving by @ 50 mph, what you get is a photo of a 20' long truck with very little (if any) motion blur. The truck will look like a truck.
Now, take the same photo with an electronic or "rolling" shutter. Imagine you have a paint roller, and you have to quickly roll it over the image as that bus is driving by. Instead of an instant capture of the truck, you will instead get a distorted photo of a truck because you were rolling over that instant in time, as opposed to capturing that instant in time instantly.
Now imagine you're flying your drone @ 25 mph snapping photos. Instead of getting undistorted images of roads, buildings, trees, parking lots, etc., you will get DISTORTED images, slightly warped, slightly bent...and/or slightly disconnected from one another.
Here is a great example of an electronic shutter vs. a mechanical one:
As you can see, the bottom image barely even looks like a propeller. It's very distorted. Conversely, the top image is CLEARLY a propeller. Now imagine trying to stitch together 500 photos, all with distortion in them. Can you say, "Nightmare?"
Phantom RTK somebody confirmed me that is not as accurate as they say it to be by the use of the RTK antenna, and what I ask you is: if I am using a specific App to project the flight, (so at the end what the drone does is just to follow the instructions given by the app), I do not see the real opportunity the mechanical shutter gives if it's not me giving the command of shooting.
I have no idea what you just said. RTK and apps, have nothing to do with mechanical vs. electronic shutter. If you somehow believe that the difference between the two is that one is automatic and the other is manually controlled by a button, then, with all due respect, you are in the wrong business. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that I am misunderstanding you.
Could you please give me a direct comparison between 2 pictures taken by a mechanical and an electronical shutter?
Thanks...
Already done (see above).
