Wow, you really have no idea until you watch it trying to escape the forest canopy how truly (Mod Removed Langage)these “toys” are.
Even if it didn’t make it in the end, the valiant effort was well worth the watch. Thx.

This was a result of a malfunction with a new autonomous software and operator error with altitude correction for this flight zone. A few mistakes were made but the lessons learned are lasting. We were just amazed at the resilience of this bird. Surely, the electronics will fail in the near future due to moisture/short circuits but it is just great to see how equipment can take a good beating.

Really amazing how the drone was struggling with all that branches around. Usually it would fall down at the first contact to the tree.
Yoiur mistake was typical. You flied backwards while the terrain elevating. I've been through the very same crash but my instantly felt down.
After the first collision you should stop, turn around (180deg). and very slowly went out on the same path you came in. Of course giving advices is much easier than acting in the place.

What would hobbyist learn from this...?
Land immediately, don't fly up through tree canopy once in it?
Why was camera replaced? Was it damaged beyond use?
It worked upon landing, AFAICT.

Nice! A great outcome after these months in the woods for this Phantom. A really resilience piece of hardware!

Totally amazing how it tried many times to escape the trees. Glad yo got it back!

Wow, that's incredibly lucky...and good story finding the carcus and realising it can still fly with a new battery. Wonder how long the owner spent searching before the actual day it was found...
