New here and new to Dji drones, always wanted a Phantom and finally got one off of Marketplace, however I know nothing about them or this one especially, trying to figure out exactly what model it is,Gentleman said it was a Phantom

2 but i’m not sure,on the surface it appears that way, judging by the battery compartment. Also appears to have some aftermarket motors on it along with some wiring i’m unsure of on the underside. Just trying to get as much insight as possible, got a smoking deal on it however it has no battery so no way to test it,he stated that it would turn on but wouldn’t do anything, but he was an older gentleman who didn’t know anything about drones so who knows, looks like someone soldered the battery terminal inside it also. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had one (bought used) with these "antigravity" motors, these claimed to be better that OEM. Of course they were not, or maybe were a percent or two - marginal difference if at all. They did affected the flight characteristic a bit though, if I remember correctly.

Buy a drone battery, also check if the RC lights up (I assume it's the AA battery version).
Then we can tell you more.

If you really don't want that, it will turn on with 12V supply, though I wouldn't try turning on the motors without real battery. Unless you have a great lab bench and a really thick set of wires.

For diagnosing issues, first thing you will need is DJI PC Assistant for Phantom 2. It connects to the drone via USB, and allows some basic checkout / calibration.

So with the power supply hooked up to the P2 I was able to get it pulled up in PTM2 and this is the messages I got. My question is are they referring to the P2 software or its controller ?

You are running FC communication software. Main Controller in this context is the Flight Controller.

But you're asking a wrong question. You probably have a Phantom-specific version of NAZA FC within that white soapbox. Looks like its communication is close enough to A2 to make some things work with the software you tried, but still, it's unlikely you really have A2 hardware. On this non-matching software, you may get many bogus messages.

Ojk its a phantom 2, the question is is it the 2.4ghz or the 5.8ghz variety
to answer that question take a look at the remote, if its a DJ6 or NDJ6 then its the 2.4ghz version if its the PVT581 or the NPVT581 then its the 5.8ghz version

So you can use the 2.4ghz version with a gopro with 5.8ghz wifi plus you can also add VTX hardware that can be wired to the gopro (with a lot of effort) to view video from the gopro on a screen or glasses.

As far as software there are 2 that you need and a driver, i have linked my collection of P1/2 software down below and a youtube link to my collection of helpful Phantom videos

Sooo after tons of trying to get the dji driver installed on my windows 10 machine it was no dice. Idk if my pc is jacked up or what but, after lots of thinking of ways to do a work around. It finally came to me and I realized I still have a perfectly functional old dell laptop with Windows Xp on it 🤣. Downloaded all the files including driver I needed on a thumb drive with my regular Pc and installed them with zero issues on the Xp laptop 😁. Plugged in the controller and low and behold the software was like v1,got that updated to the last one they did and the light on the Dj6 went from being red all the time to green and now beeps when i turn it on. Then plugged in the P2 and it immediately said no smart battery detected “understandable as it’s only powered up with my power supply” but was able to see all firmware on that was up to date.
My question is this, once disconnected I tried turned on the remote and did the toggle to start motors “i think” held both toggles on remote to the corners, the P2 flashed but then went back to solid red lights. Never could get motors to start. I’m assuming because it’s not detecting the smart batt ?
@crash1sttime. Thanks sooooooo Much !!!!

From manual:

I will only add that RC sticks and switches have to also be at proper position to start motors.

Also I don't think you can start them when USB connected (not sure though - I know this is the case for Ph3). But I guess the PC app would tell you if you tried.

Yeah i disconnected the usb first but not sure what the solid red lights ment,im only going to assume it wouldn’t arm cause of the battery,Also had the controllers switches all facing to the front of the controller. “I think they have to be “?

Did you tried what the manual proposes for solid red?
(I pasted the manual from Ph2 vision, but your drone differs from that only by not having a factory-mounted gimbal).

EDIT:
Oh, you did said it shows "battery error". If that's the only message it shows then I guess that's the issue.

Yeah it says errors and it won’t fly,but i’m hoping that’s because of the battery error i’m getting

It’s the front two legs that have the solid red lights
The front LEDs are not supposed to show much, they are just there to help you with drone orientation, and to tell you whether motors are spinning - this is what the red is supposed to mean. In newer drones, they automatically disable when you start recording, and can be manually controlled through the mobile app.

So if fronts are showing red but motors are not spinning - I don't know.
