You are quite adventurous. Some places, I would not feel safe in. Sometimes they target Americans and not Canadian. My wife’s cousin is with the defense department and told us to stay away from Indonesia. I know it’s not Malaysia. She and her family was stationed there and after two years, they asked to get relocated for the safety of her family. They were in Thailand for over 20 years and loved it.
