P3S Controller LEFT stick Mode 2

I'm not suggesting you make contact with the ground with the left stick locked down.

I have to say that I find only a click or two less than centre has my P3S descending very nicely and touches down without any bump.
I do then click the left stick to full down and props all stop. Initially I did not like the full down position click - but I am getting to like it ... just have to remember to put back to centre when powering up as it confused me at first when it just kept beeping at me. Put back to centre and then all powered up fine. (reminds me of 2.4 RC radios with switch error !!)

It seems as though there is confusion here.
Using the left stick all the way down from a higher elevation, just descends the Phantom at the fastest descent rate.
Do not use full stick down from low elevation.
The feature that powers down the motors with full stick down only happens after the Phantom has landed (or has been hand caught).

If you people didn't fly so high you wouldn't need help holding that stick down during descents.

if the black helicopters wouldn't fly so low we wouldn't have to fly over them so they don't see the pot stickers.
