For any of you flying in Australia, the OZ Runways app is truly brilliant.
It's an annual subscription, but the information available in there is incredible, and if you have it on your phone, you'll also get it on your iPad as well. There's a full featured free period to try it out to see if it will be any use to you.

The maps will show you what zone you're currently in, any restricted zones, what the restrictions are, what airspace is above you, what class of airspace, and the lower and upper limits on it, all airports and heliports in the vicinity, including unexpected little heliports such as at medical centres, and with just two fingers on the map you can measure immediately the distance between any two points, so can check that you're outside the appropriate range, even what frequencies aircraft in the area will be using if you happen to want to listen in on the VHF band for the area.

An understanding of some basic aviation terminology will help with the more advanced features, but it's well worth the annual fee, even if it's just to be able to show some ill informed member of the public screaming "you can't fly here" that you in fact can fly there, that you can prove it, and that you are well prepared and genuinely know what you're doing. Nothing disarms the ill-informed faster than proof that you're more informed than they are and that you can stand firm on that proof.

Does anyone actually use this program besides me?
