Hello all from Richmond, Virginia
Would like to introduce myself and show my bird off.. My name is Tyler and I am from Richmond, Virginia. I currently work for Virginia Commonwealth University as an IT Specialist. I recently bought a FC40 for the enjoyment with electronics and having a good time. I have done some modifications to it but I still have a small list of modifications that I would like to do to the bird.

Here is my very first video that I have taken with the copter. The video was taken with the stock setup. I would really like to invest in a gimble for stabilization but this is all I had to work with at the moment.

My set up. Yes, I have champagne corks attached to the landing gear. The camera was hitting when I would take off or land. One night of drinking fixed the problem.

Looking good... well, with the exception of the flashlight strapped to it. :D
I would suggest you separate the lens portion and mount just that. If you are worried about battery usage you could get a small, light lipo to power it. It will help with the balancing issues. I also would suggest an SMD style of LED as they are much brighter.

I also have been exploring this defective AC light I have where the voltage step down has failed. It operates on low DC voltage. I will just be using the board with the lights on it.

This is my two mods to my FC-40 similar to yours. The Phantom Quad Bright white Headlight Kit uses the small plug on your battery, the taller wider landing gear gives you much more clearance for your camera and a wider view with out the stock landing gear obstruction in the video. Both came from Amazon. Hobbypower sells the landing gear for $6.99 free shipping and Cheerwig USA sells the headlight at $6.06 free shipping. both through Amazon. The headlight is amazingly bright and does not effect my flying time at all. If you need the links to the 2 products let me know I will provide. The headlight comes with velcro mounts. I have gotten as much as 12 min. flying time with these, the stock battery and the 9" props on my FC-40.
