My Phantom is no more :0(

The new Phantom, v1.1.1, isn't PPM. It's D-BUS. And they added a second antenna. I figure they did both in an attempt to stop flyaways.

The best measures to take are to put a label on your phantom with your contact info AND have a tracker of some sort on it. Neither did me any good when I lost it in a lake, though.

I have the newer version with 2 antennae's and on the second flight it went into a high speed lock out. Luckily I was not that high up when it happened and it only went approximately 50 feet before it crashed into the ground. The system was replaced and no problems with the new unit so far. I feel like I'm on pins and needles every time I fly just waiting for it to happen again. This is not an isolated incident as there are way too many stories of this happening. I'm to the point that I calibrate the compass before every flight and constantly checking the IMU calibration. As much as I truly love the Phantom, I don't enjoy being on pins and needles. They are selling crazy numbers of these each month and you would think that DJI would address this issue (or maybe not).

What Transmitter is everyone going with. I am really looking at DSLRPros Futaba 8FG Black Edition. Anyone using anything that is more pocket friendly?

I've got the Turnigy 9x, which is a clone of a common model produced by several companies. It's pretty decent out of the box, but adding some open-source firmware really opens up its potential.

Here's the standard version at HobbyKing, which includes a receiver: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... ch=Turnigy 9x

You can also order it without the Transmitter/receiver module, and add your own options instead such as a FrSky telemetry system (which will give you real-time battery status and other info).

9x without Tx/Rx: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... ch=Turnigy 9x

FrSky telemetry system that can plug in the back of the 9x:

(receiver) http://www.alofthobbies.com/frsky-d8r-xp.html

The 9x is one of the most widely used non-Futaba controllers for multirotors, there's a ton of support and other info all over YouTube and the rest of the web. And you can add on most of the same functionality of the Futaba for a fraction of the price. Futabas are definitely excellent controllers, but you don't have to pay that much to get a great system.

Thanks for the info, these cost a fraction of the futaba I was looking at. Did you flash the firmware on your unit? If you did point me in the right direction as I want to do some research before I purchase mine.

ER9x is the most common firmware used on the 9x, and that's the one I'm going with. You can goodle for "OpenTX" for more info on open-source firmware like ER9x.

Flashing firmware on it requires a programming board, which from what I understand can be fabricated by those with enough skills, but most people just opt to buy the pre-made version: http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/index. ... cts_id=331

Here's some vids demonstrating ER9x and details on flashing to it:
