More powerfull repeater?

For those that would like to more easily tell the difference in the command and control 5.8ghz transmitter antenna range. Test using CE mode as the lower output power will give you less range.

Switch to CE mode then see how far you get in different conditions with the stock 5.8ghz antenna. This will establish a base line and help you determine which alternate screw in antenna works the best over stock. So far I've yet to fly beyond transmitter range even at over 1,650 feet away, so testing in CE vs FCC will likely be the next step for me if I decide to swap the transmitter antenna with the screw in option. Even if not entirely needed unless you're using the 14dbi directional antenna's for FPV, it's nice having the extra piece of mind that you'll always be in control, so to speak

How did you connect that 11dbi - 5.8Ghz antenna to the transmitter controller. Do you use the U.FL Mini PCI to RP-SMA pigtail antenna wifi cable? I didn't see a spot to plug it into like I did when I upgraded my 2.4Ghz repeater... I might be over looking something..

Who will reach the one (1) mile marker first! I love my P2V!

There is silicon over the ufl mini connector in the 5.8ghz tx that will need to be exposed in order to where it plugs into. Follow the black lead down from the antenna you will see where it goes. Others have said they used a knife to remove the silicon.

Whomever it will be will need to use flytrex to prove it. The app stops at 1km (3280ft), either that or it is very coincidental that it always cuts out at that point for me.

I just wanted to share my setup that has shown significant improvement of range, both for the control, as well as the wifi feed.





The antenna on the control is now replaceable. The cloverleaf I am using has extended my range by about 100% in an area with a lot of signal noise. The TPLINK setup is also easily exchangeable and I can add a booster on both (or different antennas), if needed. I have yet to enter open space with this setup, but I expect it to perform great.

Any word on how this setup worked? I'm considering adding the pigtail adapter and an external USB port on the TX. Does anyone have any results with trying some different antennas on the TX? I haven't convinced myself to make the mod yet. I've purchased the pigtail adapter and those cloverleaf antennas, but don't want to do the mod without some reassurance.

I'm also debating the 5.8 GHz transmitter antenna upgrade, so far even with extended fpv range I have still been in range of the stock transmitter. Tho I may still do it anyway. Going to do some range tests with the controller in CE mode.

That record was set a long time ago!

Around 2.5km is the max I think, at the moment.

How was that measured. Whenever i go over 1km the app says N/A

Can't speak for others (although see the send and pray thread..), but in my case of just under 2km I had a gps logger on the PV and was flying to a spotter at a known location...
I have a cheap logger taped to the pv most of the time... It's annoying -- if dji would just log the telemetry arriving at the app to a file -- a trivial job, code wise -- we would all have logged flights.

Hi Gpauk is that a 2.4 Ghz antenna or a specific 5.8 Ghz. I struggled to find a 5.8 whip greater than 5 DBI . If it is a 2.4 I would expect some losses at 5.8 ? Any guidance greatly appreciated

It's well worth using that even without the 5.8GHz amp, as the wifi link seems to be the one that fails first for most folk, and this solution means your PV and TX are left exactly as standard.....

Awesome! I ordered that Docooler repeater over a week ago and am still waiting on it to be delivered. I found these on Amazon to put on the repeater. They look very similar to what you got. Being that there are three antennas on the Docooler, would it help to replaced one of the omni antennas with a directional such as the TP-Link 9 or 14 dbi flat panels?

I modified the TX last night and added the pigtail adapter. Right now I put the cloverleaf antenna from here on the TX, but haven't done any flying yet.

If you've put a cloverleaf antenna on your TX you WILL need to put a skew planar (or at least a cloverleaf) antenna with the same polarization on the RX to make it work! If not your range will be less than the original setup.

IE: You can't mix a circular polarized antenna with the stock (linear polarized) antenna.

If this works, next step will be add the RX side to the camera. many here have offered pics of the camera and it seems that it's a very similar setup to the repeater.

I also ordered the Docooler ARGtek Wireless-N repeater. What do you think of substituting one if the Omni directional antennas with the TP-LInk Directional, either 9dbi or the 14dbi. Seems like the best of both worlds. Any thoughts?

I've made a 5.8GHz cloverleaf for my RC TX and a small skew planar for the P2V, and will be adding this soon to my setup.

I'm at the moment not worried about my 2.4GHz WiFi connection from the P2V to the standard DJI range extender (modified with a 9DB TP-Link) as the range for this is okay (till now)

For the real long range stuff I will be using an other (none DJI) quad in combination with my Graupner Hot MX, Fatshark Attitude SD and a 800mw video transmitter

I am putting 2 x 9dbi omni antennas and one 18 DBI netgear patch antenna ( ant24d18) on the decooler ....when it arrives. The netgear patch has an azimuth of 60 degrees and an elevation of 30 degrees for beam angles. This I believe will be the best of both worlds and should offer way excess of 3 km while maintaining reliable feed at both close and long range.
