I'm new, I know when you pull the left control stick down when on the floor the engines die. But I was wondering if you pull them all the way down in mid air to fly lower does it cut out?

Many thanks

No. Will not cut out in flight. But be aware that a CSC (control stick manuver) will kill the power to the phantom and drop you like a rock.

Left stick down is the usual way to descend.
The DJI design engineers aren't dumb enough to make the usual descent method kill your motors.
I's completely safe to descend with the left stick hard down.
Left stick down will only kill the motors when the flight controller detects that the Phantom has stopped descending for 3 seconds with the left stick hard down.
