Litchi permissions (Android) - why make/manage phone calls?

I'm installing Litchi on Android for P3A and it's asking for permission to make and manage phone calls - why is this needed?

I can understand the other permissions (location, media for photo/video).

It is required for the DJI SDK to work. Litchi uses the DJI SDK to connect to DJI drones.
The DJI SDK uses this permission to identify your mobile device when registering the app with their servers (upon first start). It is not used to actually make calls, but android calls it that way.
If you refuse the permission, Litchi will keep asking you for it, as it would otherwise crash upon connecting to the drone.
