Sadly disappointed with my new drone, brand new from DJI and out of the box the controller doesn't charge or work. :(

This is why it's good to buy from a local authorized store, you can return it for exchange. It's high risk to buy from DJI IMO, because there are a good percentage of craft that come from the factory with flaws, so many that I've put together a check list for things to look for when you get your craft sorted out. It appears you'll need to ship the craft back to DJI in California. The typical turn-around is 10 to 20 days, depending on where you live for the shipping time. Ask DJI for a prepaid shipping label.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but DJI needs to implement an outgoing inspection process to insure things works before they get boxed.

Your case sounds extraordinary because DJI has to fire up the RC in order to link it to the craft in the box, so it should have worked at the factory, otherwise they would not have been able to link the craft, something they always do before boxing each setup. I'm wondering if your charger is bad. Does the charger work OK to charge the flight battery?

Hang in there, once you get a good craft you're going to love the P4P, the best drone value on the market IMO.

John is right about buying local, or Amazon. I love Bestbuy. Have a problem, take it back and exchange it. I wished you lived near me, I would loan you a charger, or controller. Maybe we need to start a DJI support group. When you push the power on button, do any lights come on the controller? That would show it had been charged and it worked.

You hit on a great idea. Local support group. We could volunteer to help anyone in our area. I am in Central Florida near Orlando. Anyone in the area could contact me through the forum for help. I live for this crap.

Your'e not trying to charge the controller at the time as the battery I hope, the charger can't do both at the same time.

To turn the controller on it's the double press and hold method, same as turning on the battery

I think it would be a good thing. It would be easy enough in this case to figure out the problem, and get him in the air. Also, make certain he has a copy of the manual. A long time ago on the DJI board I suggested getting together, and writing a manual for the Phantom 4. Back then, it was useless. You would have thought I wanted to borrow money by the lack of support. But, everyone had great fun bitching about the manual.

IANNES hit on some thing.
