Is it possible to shut down the motors mid flight?

You pulled the stick to the center, what about this, to the outside bottom?

It's been the standard emergency stop method since the P1.
It's documented in the manual.
The CSC stick positions aren't moves that would be made in normal flight.

But that would make it a very poor emergency stop method.
Really if this was an issue, Phantoms would be falling out of the sky all over the place - but they aren't.

I can see it for emergency use. If a seaplane was landing on the lake while you were flying, the safest thing might be to drop the Phantom into the lake.

Not enjoying the prospect of a suicidal drop, but we do have float planes (and even water bombers once) landing during the summer.
