Many a times, I have been asked to open my bag during a security check at the airports!
Earlier they didn't know what it was and I had to explain and they used to be like "Cool".
More recently, when I had to open my bag to show them after an xray check, I was kinda taken aback as all of the security guys were like " Dr0ne Dr0ne"
I immediately corrected them that it was a quadcopter and thats the term we used for it!
But still he exclaimed, "Its still a drone though!"

and sent me back to get it checked in!
I have a backpack which I use to carry my equipment and always try to carry it as cabin baggage and have been allowed previously.
But since recently, all airports tell me to check it in the cargo hold!

Recently, on a trip I was filming a sunset on the beach and was approached by a a few curious people including lifeguards who were enjoying seeing the quad and were impressed by it.
One of the older gentlemen comes up to me and mentions it as $py dr0ne!
I fly FPV, so I showed him my screen and asked him whether he could make out any $pyworthy material from up there!? (At that point the sun was below the horizon from ground level, but the phantom was still able to see it from that height and it looked amazing!)
I even brought it down a bit and did a few flyby's(had the wide mode on GoPro) and apart from the general landscape of the beach and waters, one couldn't make out anything. I showed it to him again and he finally seemed convinced that it was harmless.
I even got word that evening that, people were reporting on my activities to the local cops patrolling the beach!!
I guess they had nothing better to do!
During video editing of a flight, I even spotted a guy who was gesturing as if he was firing a gun at the phantom!!

(you get their mindset from this single action and they are the ones cops should be looking closely at!!)
I have seen other phantoms flying at such locations and I always appreciate and applaud them and never try to seek out the pilot as he needs his concentration and doesn't need a mob gathering around and disturbing him, mid flight!
One thing that I have learned after this is, that I always seek out a remote or impossibly difficult to get to, spot, unpack my gear and then take off from there.
Hate the crowd gathering behind me!
