Geo Fencing

Now that DJI dropped Geo Fencing as of Jan 15, 2025, how do I get rid of Geo Fencing on my Phantom 4 Pro v1 drone which uses the Go4 app?
Geofencing is nothing new for DJI drones. DJI has been 'controlling' how we fly for many years.

I fly P3's......the Standards. DJI implemented Geofencing on that model beck in 2016-2017. That is why I haven't updated firmware since 2015. Birds fly fine, with no altitude or distance limits.

As for your issues with the Phantom P4 Pro, you may have downloaded the dreaded GeoFencing garbage with the latest firmware update. It may be necessary to downgrade back to the previous/ original firmware version to eliminate GeoFencing, and any other nasty updates that DJI so expertly hides in their updates.

There are firmware archives on msingers' site, 'phantomhelp.com' Just be sure to select the correct section (P4Pro) to select the correct firmware. I am not an expert on the P4Pro, so others may need to chime in and instruct you on how to downgrade the bird and controller to a previous version.

**you started two threads on the same subject. I suggest you delete one thread and keep the other active, to avoid confusion.

Thanks for the link/article(s). It's amazing how DJI now considers the GeoFencing system 'educational' now......and not controlled enforcement.

My P3S's are unsupported antiques now, compared to modern drones that are out there flying now. Fine with me......😀

That's how it should be, right? The FAA is supposed to enforce it.

Still don't have an answer to my question as to how to eliminate Geo Fencing now that as of Jan 15th DJI eliminated it. I'm not talking about unlocking it, I want it gone. Does it just go away now? Don't believe so. Would think it must have a new firmware. Maybe I should start my P4P and see if there is a new firmware. Have not seen one for over a year. Everything I see about eliminating it is for the Fly app. They seem to have forgotten the many drones that use the Go4 app.

I'd advise that you check the firmware version on your P4Pro, and downgrade if necessary to eliminate all aspects of that Geofencing garbage.

Firmware downgrades are available on msingers site 'phantomhelp.com'......in the firmware archive section.

Well it happened. I started my P4P and a message said I needed to d/l new firmware. I'm inside and cant fly for some time due to weather, so don't know if it deleted Geofencing or not. Since no new firmware has been available for a couple of years, makes sense that it is Geofencing deletion.

As stated in post # 11, I'd compare your current firmware to the firmware update being offered. Then review the DJI firmware update notes to see exactly what is included in the update.

The firmware archive is below.....also available on phantomhelp.com.

@D Greg you should be able to fly without restriction after updating the FlySafe database from within DJI GO.

Oh that should word , lots of variables to that word. Dont update nothing or could be a can if worms in the making,.once it's in you app it's there for good cant delete . If that's your only worry dont worry about it, If any dji drone no longer supported dont update it . Why update something that's not supported by dji any longer,

Other people confirmed they updated the FlySafe database to remove those restrictions. That's why I'm saying it should work if you do the same.

Scary stuff.

And now DJI has released total control to the drone pilot, with only 'warning' and 'alert' messages on the app screen. I don't blame DJI one bit. They just want to sell new drones, and stay out of the worlds' regulatory crap.

Thanks everyone for great info. Will see what happens when I fly in those 'former' geofenced zones. Spending winter down south where there are no problems flying. Will see what happens next April on the west coast where I had problems in the past.

That was generated by AI and is not really trustworthy information. It looks like it hacked together parts of this forum post to generate that.
