Flying in airplane mode on an iPad, good or bad?

I tried flying in airplane mode today, while at the same time being on a manually selected 2.4Ghz cusom channel. The AC totally disconnected from the RC, so I switched airplane mode off, and switched back to 2.4 Ghz auto, and was back in business. Since I changed both factors at the same time, I don't know the main cause of the disconnect. So my question is, is it beneficial to fly in airplane mode, or a bad idea? Also, I'm using a WIFI only iPad 10.5". Thank you in advance.

I stay in airplane mode all the time so I am not bothered by forced updates. This is on Ipad mini 2 flying P3A and P3P

It should make no difference.
And if you want to avoid auto updates (there are no "forced updates"), simply switch off auto updating in settings on your phone or tablet.
