Just wondering if anyone has tried to fly drones to get footage of fireworks show at a distance. Or fly into or super close to the fireworks, so you could see them explode right in your face. There are a few drone videos that actually fly into fireworks which is really cool.

But if I were to just do that, would the people shut off the firework show if they saw a drone. Plus is it possible for a firework rocket to hit a drone or the explosive stuff hit the drone? I live near Angels Stadium and they do firework shows and they shoot them in the parking lot. So it could be possible for me to fly outside the stadium, but still be very close to the fireworks. Is there any danger for a drone to be inside fireworks? Like if a firework hit the drone, would it only be bad for the drone or could the firework drop and explode way too low.

When I was there, I was so close to the fireworks that I found burnt pieces of the rockets on the ground. And I was at the closest I was permitted as a by-stander, just stayed behind a barricade thing.

The issue of the drone is not primary. You would be flying over people my friend. Stay away.

Technically, the firework display is in a parking lot (away from stadium) The audience is inside the stadium, so I wouldn't be flying the drone inside the stadium, just next to it.

There are only by-standers who are watching from the parking lot.

Only if you have your force field down,...but why would you ever fly into rockets and explosions with out first putting up your force fields? o_O

I don't have force fields. But I think the chances of getting hit should be very low, I think you really have to try if you wanted the drone to get hit by a firework rocket.

These are the ones whom I was referring to. Not inside the stadium. Just follow the guidelines per the FAA. As such:

Individuals flying for hobby or recreation are strongly encouraged to follow safety guidelines, which include:

  • Fly at or below 400 feet and stay away from surrounding obstacles
  • Keep your UAS within sight
  • Never fly near other aircraft, especially near airports
  • Never fly over groups of people
  • Never fly over stadiums or sports events
  • Never fly near emergency response efforts such as fires
  • Never fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Understand airspace restrictions and requirements
This will help keep the hobby safe from future restrictions. Fly Safe!

Gosh, there are numerous threads here, where you can witness tons of photos and videos of others who have done it......just search "fireworks" and be amazed.

So what they do to that guy who flew the drone in Petco stadium? I'm not sure but I think it might be okay to fly over a stadium if there is nothing going on there. I wish I could fly over a baseball game and just troll everyone and fly laps around the baseball field.

That's the kind of thing that gives the hobby a bad rap. Although I grant you yes, if it were safe and legal, that would be enjoyable to do. But keeping the safety factor in mind, it would be very unwise to do so.

@mdowney58 ....You are correct there are many who have done it. Most of them if you will notice are over open water, or huge unpopulated area's, not directly over "spectators" or "bystanders" and for the most part not actually inside the firing range itself. It can be done, just don't be an idiot like a few that I personally have seen and almost stuck my foot in their rear for being so.

I wouldn’t want to. You see those fireworks are actually beautiful explosions and little pieces of material go flying in all sorts of directions. Should one hit your plastic propeller I do believe it could be catastrophic to your enjoyment

Hey, I just saw a video by a guy who flew all over the French Quarter here in New Orleans, over people over crowded streets.......its posted here on this site. I was just floored by this.......right over the top of a Casino, unbelievably irresponsible IMO. An walking around with it in his hand.......is this normal? I am kind of new to this but still....

Those cool mortars they use in professional fireworks that launch then explode in a big ball at altitude are producing the same results as AA flak cannons in the second world war. They're an explosive ball that propels hundreds of pieces of burning shrapnel in every direction with cardboard tubes heavy and rigid enough to take off prop blades. You could even seem to be safe from your viewpoint the boom your phantom is getting pelted with a big batch of FU. I used to fly full contact combat with planes and it always amazed me how often two fast moving objects could end up in the exact same place at the same time in all those cubic meters of airspace even when it wasn't on purpose.

I'd rather not. Why fly into active fireworks and risk blowing up your copter to smithereens when you can fly it into other safer areas to enjoy the scenery? Subtract the risk and enjoy the fireworks from afar. ;)

And if you are attending a fireworks show, why should you have to look at someone's drone right smack in the middle of it? People seem to forget that your right to enjoy your drone ends at the rights of other people to enjoy an event.

Depending on how high you're flying and (being a fireworks display) you're flying at night; the distraction to the other viewers is very minimal. The only thing they see is some blinking lights and, likely, don't hear anything over the fireworks.

I've seen people in the French quarter walking around with many things in their hands.

Lol- if the display operator stops the show for fear of a drone being hit and possible going down on his personal and or into the crowd, your gonna make the public watching it upset. Also, these actions will soon initiate more and more municipalities to contact their state represenitives and ask for pressure in Washington to create and in force more laws towards drones.

I tried to explain in another thread the proper way to contact the authorities to be able to shoot video of fireworks. I will try to find and post the link unless someone finds it before I do.

On the edge of my seat waiting for your explanation.
