Am I correct in thunking that "F" on the FMS should be used when flying indoors, possibly weak GPS?
To date I have not tried flying indoors but thought I'd give it a go.
My main concern is just how controllable is the drone in such a limited space., especially altitude. I don't want to damage the drone or anything in the house!!

Um if the same as p3s yes it like atti mode,no gps,will drift and you will have to keep full control,if vps is off,it will move up and down a bit aswell so keep throttle ready,it won't hold position,,vps on it might not like the floor pattern or similar and try to rise or not want to land,be careful either way,,I flown for a while and still don't hover inside,,no room for error,,,I save inside for this,mayby if you got large lounge and you confident ,go for gold but seen things go wrong on utube ,scary stuff

Phantoms were not made to fly in houses -- unless of course your house has a room the size of a gymnasium. It's not worth the risk to your drone, the people in your house, and/or damage you'll cause if you crash.

Once upon a time, when DJI Updates were more solid and secure I would test out the drone with just 2 Satellites , but than came newer updates that made drones shake , rattle and sometimes fly away.

My love for flying in the house went out the window , but I have this as the memory of the Phanom 4 Pro in its prime, when it was flying the firmware 509.

I can no longer recommend it as updates come and go and each one had it strengths and weaknesses.

F mode will function exactly the same as P mode, both use GPS for maintaining position, only difference is F mode allows you to activate Intelligent flight modes (POI, Waypoints, and Follow me). If GPS is not available the aircraft will hover but will drift unless VPS is on and functioning properly. DJI does advertise that the P3A/P can be flown indoors using VPS but in my experience its waaay too dangerous unless you have a very large room with higher than normal ceilings. In my opinion VPS causes more instability than it eliminates and I leave mine turned off. If you want to fly indoors you are basically flying in Atti "A" mode regardless of the position of the FMS.

I would not fly my Phantom 4 Pro indoors. You would need a really big open space. With VPS it does hold its position pretty well but still too dangerous indoors. I have flown my Spark indoors and that works nicely. Same principle except the small size of the Spark allows you more room to maneuver in tight spaces indoors. A couple of things I have noticed though:

• Don't have any loose papers on tables or counters. The props will blow them all over the place even from a few feet away. There is a lot of downwash even from the small Spark.
• Any dust or cat hair seems to get magically attracted to the propellers in flight.
• Cats don't like noisy flying objects!

Interesting - just read this in the manual :

Using Vision Positioning
Vision Positioning is activated automatically when the Phantom 3 Advanced is turned on. No
further action is required. Vision Positioning is typically used in indoor environments, where GPS
is unavailable. Using the sensors that are built into the Vision Positioning system, the Phantom 3
Professional can hover precisely even without GPS.

Right -- it's perfect for that. However, it's not a great idea to fly inside the average size house.
