Did the OP ever say what he eventually did? Just curious.
Mentions of power lines reminded me that I'm supposed to be getting "high voltage training" from my employer. I heard what it is from a co-worker. Basically they attempt to terrorize you with real videos of people being fried to death for not following the necessary precautions around high voltage.
In other words, not much different from a typical day of web surfing for me.
But yeah, gas and electric utilities will go to great lengths to keep you away from their stuff.
