Very lucky nobody was hurt. The operator must have lost sight of his craft if it crossed the street. With no GPS your all atti and if you don't see it you can't control it and stuff like this may happen. He must have lost video also not to see where the craft was, maybe he lost com and video. At any cost (all his) somebody F--- up, I would like to see the dat file.
A difficult article to read- usually to nearly miss something means it was hit. Lucky it seems nobody was injured.
Your right that was a "near hit"

THIS is exactly why there needs to be a performance test with the 107 certification. This pilot obviously can not fly in ATTI mode/no GPS... and this was his third attempt because of no GPS lock and he crashed.

The folks that lined up this "inspection" tried to go cheap and probably just got someone they know that had a Phantom to do the job. There is a multitude of issues when flying a job like this. GPS interference is just one of them.

After this incident, the homeowners assoc attorneys called my buddy (who had done work for them before)... and after all this negative media exposure - declined the job.

They wanted your buddy to abseil down the building and remove the framing around the window?

Seems they already had their drone footage (acquired before the incident).

That "pilot" should have his Part 107 pulled and fined for:

* Flying in manner exceeding his capacity (unable to maintain control of the aircraft in ATTI mode)
* Flying over People (and probably moving cars)
* Not securing a safe flight area
ALL of the above are inexcusable.

Stunts like this can cost us dearly IF there is a sUAS to person incident. He (and our industry) got very lucky no one was impacted. Thank goodness this story hasn't appeared to be picked up by many news agencies and spread around like the plague (yet).
