There have been many discussions about the legality of drone support of SAR, LE, FR, et al. That debate will likely continue for some time. However, we believe the value of a united volunteer drone community far outweighs any fear of discourse.

The DART platform, consisting of multiple websites and mobile applications, centralizes a database of pilots and disseminates critical and time-sensitive event data from national, state, regional and local incident reporting systems.

Our intention is to share more detailed information as we draw closer to launch. For now, our intro video is below.

We are sharing this information here in hopes the drone community will support our efforts. Please contact me directly with any questions, feedback, or ideas.

Thank you,

Curious... what is the debate about legality?

You simply need the proper paperwork (license, etc.).
Are you lobbying for amendment of the Laws as well?

This sounds on the surface like the Civil Air Patrol.
Is that a fair comparison?

Those volunteers must have proper license.

Good question. To fly a drone as an amateur, the only requirement is proper registration with the FAA and compliance with federal, state and local regulations. The question most hotly discussed right now is whether law enforcement can, or should, actively engage drone pilots to support community incidents.

As we've seen is the examples of drone pilots performing heroic efforts, they weren't engaged by LE. Rather, they were aware of the incidents and voluntarily launched their aircraft as concerned citizens wanting to help. No license is required for that.

DART merely provides a platform to ensure those same concerned citizens are aware of events around them that might benefit from their support.
