So it's not just about iOS 8, it's a hardware issue?

The first gen iPad mini has the A5 chip.
Isn't that a faster chip than is in the iPhone 5? I thought I read some are using their iPhone 5 with the the pilot app?

No the iphone 5 is an A6 chip... Claimed by apple to be 2x faster than the a5 chip

I received my Ipad mini first gen and the sound didn't work. Sending it back and bought an Ipad mini 2. Dji Pilot app loaded - haven't flown w/ it yet.

Android app crashed on me on my maiden voyage. No crash, but had to use return home to get the bird back.

I use my phone as a hotspot and wifi my ipad 3 to the phone so it gets a GPS signal where ever I am easy really

I have a wifi only iPad mini and have to do the same thing, use my iPhone as a hotspot
