oday, DJI announced its aircraft protection plan "DJI Care". DJI Care aims to provide a better user experience while covering damage to your DJI aircraft, gimbal or cameras. The DJI Care service value also includes - One verified aircraft or gimbal S/N, all expensive components included, large coverage amount with unlimited repairs and official accessories guaranteed. This might come in handy especially if you start flying like this guy. What this means for you is that if you have problems with your remote such as signal interference while flying resulting in a crash or drop of your aircraft out of the sky, you can send in your aircraft to DJI and they will replace it. The great thing about DJI Care is that the aircraft owner can be changed, the S/N of the aircraft is bound to the service agreement cannot.

Could you show us where you read this ? are we blind ?

Logically (one would think) it would have to only cover new items so that DJI can establish cost of craft in New condition.

DJI can't have people go out and crash their drones and then sign up for crash insurance. That would be a failed business model.

The media says existing customers can have the insurance, but that just sounds wrong unless of course DJI states it applies to existing customers who just bought a Phantom today and were not aware of the insurance. Here is what the media wrote:

"New and existing DJI drone owners will have the option to purchase either a six-month or one-year DJI Care protection plan that will cover damage to their aircraft, gimbal or camera under normal use and pilot error, such as drops and crashes."

Here you go. You have a max of 48 hours to purchase the insurance after purchasing a Phantom:

DJI says: After an aircraft has been activated for more than 48 hours, we cannot determine its condition. However, you can submit a verification video to get approval for purchasing DJI Care from Feb. 22 2016 to Mar. 22 2016.

Good point... your six months of insurance could run out before you get your bird back, so you only get to use it once.

Exactly. It might make you think twice about sending it in for a $50 repair. Especially if current turn around times are any indication. Hopefully they will have repair centers that are closer than China.

Not available in my area (Puerto Rico) so the website won't even show me the price. Available to all Phantom 3 flavors, but only the Inspire 1 V2.0. That must leave a bad taste in any recent Inspire 1 V1.0 purchaser. Many online vendors are still selling those brand new you know, though not DJI. To a lesser extent, the same could be said of the P2's and P Visions. But I don't know, it feels too soon to for DJI to give the Inspire 1 V1.0 the cold shoulder. Especially since it is so much more expensive than the Phantoms. That is cold DJI. Cold.

EDIT: Upon further inspection, I see that DJI does have an Inspire 1 V1.0 protection plan. It is called:

DJI Doesn't Care
