Can you use a phantom 4 pro plus controller with a phantom 4

The GL300E is compatible with the Phantom 4.

Before attempting to link the GL300E to the Phantom 4, you need to set the "Remote Controller Type" setting to "PHANTOM 4". You can find that setting in the following section of DJI GO:
