Controller shuts off

I haven't flown my p3 pro for a couple of months. I charged the controller lights blinked after a period of time they went out. I turned on controller it blinked, it beeped once and it shut off. So am I correct to assume the battery is shot, or is there something else it could be?

Sounds like the battery-- however, a low battery in a controller will take several hours to charge
