Has anyone used other chargers to charge the Phantom batteries. Was gonna make up a plug and use the charger I use for my planes.

It depends on which Phantom batteries specifically but yes some have used other chargers to charge their batteries.
With the SMART batteries the charger is really just a power supply and the circuitry on the battery itself controls the charging functions.
