Cargo release

Yep, folks have, but it's not popular in these parts. There's not much cargo capacity on our birds. There's supposedly a 7th channel which could activate a servo. Maybe I just dreamed that.

Hey Brad,
Welcome to the show
Nice hat ya got there.

Hey Buckaroo Thanks! I am from Joshua Tree CA. ( less or different type of wierdos here than other parts of Cal!) Cazn you provide any info on how to do that? and what kind of hardware from yer dreamin?

I believe the seventh is typically used to control the camera angle servo on those with gimbal'd cameras.

Yep, I think you are correct about the pitch/gimbal. That's what I use it for.

I don't know much more on the subject Brad. Good luck.

Here's a good way to search within our forum:

Here's what I found using that search engine:

Such devices are often used on RC planes to drop parachutes or candy. If you have a good local remote control hobby shop, they should be able to help rig something up on your quad to enable you drop a payload. I believe that is one of the features on the new SOLO quad from 3DR, a payload bay that can release its cargo.

They call it an 'accessory bay' but don't mention it being automated or useable for dropping items.

Here's what they say:
"The accessory bay has similar functionality but is designed for accessories other than gimbal and imaging devices, such as an optical flow indoor flight stabilizer, ballistic parachute system, LED lighting system and many more."

No, I don't think it comes automated with a servo. I think the potential to use it, as I have seen discussed on 3DR user groups, falls under the "Many more' uses they mention.
