The idea of blade guards is that they are a bumper and protect the Phantom. You don't want your bumper to have a weak spot. I broke one the other day and just ordered a new set.
I broke one of mine recently. I glued it with super glue (modeling version) and it held for a couple flights before falling off on a bad landing.
I just ordered some of the Carbon Fiber prop guards that are starting to show up. I got them from HeliProz for $60 plus shipping. I could have gotten them cheaper from China, but I needed them for a weekend trip coming up.
