I have been reading through some of the posts on here. Sometimes we are not as patient as we should be to newbies. I have seen this play out over the years. I think we forget that we were all newbies at some point. Even Droneted! I can remember getting some sharp replies and being put off by them. Other members jumped in to pretty much save me. I was able to push on with their support. Phantom Pilots Forum is part of my family and I appreciate all of you.

I am proud to say I have never once in any drone-related forum responded to a newbie question by suggesting that the answer can be found by "reading the manual".

I always assume that the person asking the question has looked through the manual and is only seeking clarification because the manual's wording is ambiguous or obscure. With that in mind, I share all the insights I consider to be relevant, while prepared to accept that my answer might not fully address the inquiry to which I have responded with my two cents worth of layman's knowledge.

A few months ago, I joined a Facebook group called "Old Farts with Drones". Well, it seemed to me many of the old farts just wanted to get into arguments and bash each other. Really nasty name calling and sarcasm amongst the members whenever they disagreed, rather than discussing a topic in a civilized manner. Well, this old fart with a drone didn't sign up for that environment, so after a month I left the group - and explained to the Admin exactly why I left. So If you don't have the time to help a newbie in this forum, just don't comment. There are other members here who will be happy to help them.

Same experience here. Waste of time. I’m a fixer not a fighter

Regardless of how long one has been a member, if they are lazy with their RFI's (Request For Information), they will be scolded by me. These lazy RFI's are easy to spot. They stick out like a sore thumb.

This group is not a "first line of defense." Reading the manual and doing Internet research is your first line of defense. Posts like "I can't powr upmy unit" will always be met with sarcasm by me. Conversely, a post that asks, "I have read the manual, researched the Internet, and followed the power-on procedure in the instruction manual and I still can't power up the remote control for my Inspire 1 V2." will be answered legitimately.

Discuss.

YES! There is 1 in particular that has obviously forgotten what it was like as a newbie. Just look at the posts and you will find `Him`. He attacks, does not share knowledge, I for one think that he needs to be put on a reaaly short leash until he corrects his condsending comments!

In the 13 years I have been involved with repairing DJI drones & cameras, I have yet to read a post from any of the Chinese engineers that developed this sometimes fussy technology, so I believe we all have more to learn & that is the magic part of this this hobby. I have known & collaborated with Droneted for many years & witnessed some of the unnecessary skepticisim occasionally put upon him regarding out-of-the-box concepts that later proved to be invaluable techniques in repairing these cameras. Those of you that have dared to attempt their first repair, go where few are willing to go in accepting success or frustrating failure. Sharing knowledge of successful efforts is a worthy trait that eludes the fragile ego and is very important in this hobby. There are fixers & there are fliers. Personally, I am a fixer & I leave the skilled flyer to their expertise so they won't have to be bothered with me getting in their way. I spent 30 years as a racing sailor & always shared my knowledge when asked because I learned long ago that the human brain can only absorb around 10% of what is being shared. In fact, as this posts shows, I usually gave them more information than they needed, because that is the way to help, knowing they will never call me a jerk for not sharing my "secrets".

Beautifully written sir. I have on occasion found that in formulating a response to a fellow drone operator's question, I improve my own understanding of the concept I am trying to describe.
