This is taken from a different thread about how many cycles a Phantom battery will take.

Environmental factors that can influence a batteries life are extremes of heat or cold outside of manufacturers specs, damage to any of the cells, and over-discharging such as repeated and deliberate full throttle takeoffs and braking.

You can damage the battery and possibly other components by going from hover to WOT enough times. DJI Go will not let you fly to a fully depleted state if you have your RTH settings correct.

The energy available in a batteries' life is finite, how fast you use up whats available depends on how you use them ( yes many factors), and sometimes they just fail.
Auto RTH in GO calculates the amount of battery needed to bring your craft back to home based on time and distance, what it does NOT know is how strong
the wind is, so if you are downwind and far enough the GO calculation may not get you back. I never use that feature and prefer to do my own calculations based on the present flight conditions.
