It looks to me like the landing gear bolts on from the outside. Unless these bolts have nuts inside the case, why would it need to opened?

Looking at how the fix the camera to the base, bet you could get the lens filter to work with that

Also, you could just use the larger legs that you can buy elsewhere, rather than the spacers!
