I guess it was bound to happen at some point, always just a matter of when and how serious..... Incredibly lucky nobody was hurt as a result of this idiot, I bet countless people are attempting this around the world - we just don't hear about it. Surely there is a sensible way of not letting idiots take control of these things and putting lives at risk without ruining the enjoyment of quads for the rest of us.

The guy indirectly blames DJI because the quad was supposed not to allow him to fly near an airport.
Install a red knop somewhere with a big sign saying DON'T PUSH THIS KNOP and guess what, always people who will push it, just because of the sign.

2. General Directorate of State Airports Authority
3. Turkish Airlines
so far.
He will stand trial and could be senteced from 6 months to 2 years in prison.

Prosecutor asked the court to sentence him up to 6 years in prison. Now he is really facing jail time!

not wishing to defend idiots, but if you are high enough above an airport runway you are very unlikely to get hit as all the planes are near the ground landing or taking off. you just have early called go rounds to worry about I suppose.

Irrelevant. Whether you hit anything or not, you're flying over controlled airspace.

I realise that, I was looking at it from the danger aspect not legally. @ Jacob, if you are told to hold/do circuits you don't tend to circuit directly over the runway.
like I said, I don't want to defend an idiot, just pointing out that it isn't a great lucky miracle that a collision didn't occur, it just isn't that likely directly above the runway. if it was on the ILS glide slope its a different story.

Ever hear of a Phantom falling out of the sky as a result of a failed motor, or a faulty battery, or a fly away, or losing video feed when out of LOS or etc., etc., etc. The possibility exists that one could fall right into the path of a landing aircraft. Some of his shots appeared to be almost directly in line with the runway and who knows what angles he may have shot from that we didn't see because he edited them out.
They have restricted airspace for a reason and this idiot is a perfect example of why.
