Will a P3 battery work in a P2V

I have recently purchased a P3A and my old P2V will likely only be used as a backup, if at all. I am wondering if I can put the P3A battery in the P2V only for the purpose of discharging the P3A battery – so I would not be flying the P2V. But of course I don't want to confuse the "smart" P3 battery or cause any damage. Has anyone tried this?
