I flew my Phantom 1/2 mile away from it's launch site and then the GPS flew it back in about 4 minutes. Has anyone flown their Phanton 3/4 mile or 1 mile away from them and either landed it or even flown it back?

Mine has gone about .63 miles away per some shaky google maps plotting. I don't have iOSD yet and really don't want to add the upgrade board or other piece of hardware needed for it so I'm looking for an alternative I can add to it to determine distance and home position.
I would go farther, but (aside from lack of iOSD) my FPV setup doesn't mesh well with the 600 tx and the boscam lcd. boo hoo.
