This is called 'Sugar Reef', which is just offshore along the (US) CT/RI border. On this recent evening, just prior to low tide, there was an interesting phenomenon going on.

The Lunar cycle was just coming off full, which causes a faster tidal flow, and the winds were out of the south, which is vary rare here, and usually very short lived. What this resulted in was the tidal flow from right to left colliding with the wind swell from left to right, directly upon the reef, and it created this linear pattern.

This, is why I love aerial photography. That would have otherwise, never been seen...
 
If the image is too big, it is because that's how you saved it. Simply save it again and keep the file size to a reasonable 500K or less so you can show it here.
