Tello anyone? I got mine.

Hey all,

Just curious to see who has/planning to get the Tello? I was fortunate enough to acquire one a couple of weeks ago on alibaba and have been having a blast with it. My wife, on the other hand, has not been too enthused. With anything more than 5 mph wind being a real struggle for the tiny drone, I've been mostly antagonizing her while I sit on the couch in the room next door. Here are my pros/cons for the Tello so far:

Pros-

Extremely lightweight
Advanced technology for price point
DJI flair
One of the longest flight times in this category
Well built and durable

Cons-

Struggles outdoors
Does not come with transmitter
Often intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity
Short range

I'd love to hear thoughts from anyone else who's gotten their hands on one or plans to add one to their collection!

For the price and the fact that it doesn't have a controller, I'm out.

I got my Ryze Tello drone today and here are my thoughts.

Pros-

Extremely lightweight
Great camera for price (remember this is a $99 drone)
Battery life

Cons-

Poor controller support (I bought GameSir G4 because Ryze said GameSir's are compatible...Not the case and does not work)
WiFi password (Mine reboots after setting the password and Marvel Micro AP comes up and DHCP seems to be broken. Must factory reset to correct!)
Positioning system (works great in bright florescent lights when at work but at home in normal light functioned poorly) I guess mixed feelings on this one
Settings menu (all other menus looks great but settings menu has tiny text for such little options)

Additions-

Streaming to Youtube or Twitch from app <----App would be so amazing with this feature

Great feedback! What a bummer about the controller. I was tempted to by the one you got but it sounds like I made the right decision in waiting. Hopefully DJI/Ryze will share a list of confirmed compatible controllers in the near future.

Yea, about the positioning system when flying indoors...I kept getting “low ambient light” warnings as well and the VPS would then disengage. Lame, but still an overall great drone for the price[emoji1303]

I flew it today in a super bright area and it was perfect. Remember to also set the center of gravity in the options. <--helps a lot. Now as a test we started reducing the light by turning lights off (I will post a video later on youtube). We used a light meter and measured the amount of light needed for perfect flight and when the ambient light sensor came on. Once it came on the drone started to drift some...tho not bad because it had been hovering in spot for a while. I flew it around a bit in low ambient light and when I stopped to hover. It was having a difficult time keeping center. When positioning system works...it really works.

Over all I am still impressed with this $99 drone. I have wasted $99bucks on dumber stuff that isnt nearly as fun. I bump walls and just go nuts with it without a care. <---never full speed. I would never do that with my Mavic Pro.

Bummer on the controller. I will be returning it to Amazon because I have no use for that controller. The app tho shows the GameSir G3 controller but I dont like how that one looks. I am with you Let Us Drone...I will wait for an actually list to come out by model and not by brand. Cause to say GameSir controllers are compatible would imply that the G4 works like a champ! $1 says the G3 works great but I am not gonna waste my time or money.

Sistemul de poziționare (funcționează excelent în luminile fluorescente luminoase când lucrați, dar acasă în condiții normale de lumină funcționa prost) Cred că sentimente amestecate pe acest
Meniul de setări (toate celelalte meniuri arată excelent, dar meniul de setări sunt text mic pentru astfel de mici opțiuni)

si eu . am aceiasi problema cu accesul wifi dupa restarea ssid-ului si a parolei. Cum pot face reset la setarile din fabrica? multumesc anticipat?

I bought 2 birds with 2 extra batteries for each a couple weeks ago, and have been flying them a lot! They're really fun, and the neighborhood finds them so less menacing than my phantoms. Plus, you don't have to worry about crashing. They're really resilient!

Great practice drones to help build motor / controller / flying skills.

Had to factory reset one of them due to the wifi password (and username, in my case) change bug...

Ryze Tello Owner Thread - Page 27 - RC Groups
Mar 20, 2018, 12:52 PM RemE (this user was doing a firmware upgrade before it crashed, but I just need to reset it to factory, so this is how to reset the tello to factory settings):
1. With Tello off, press the power button for 5 seconds, wait for LED to pulse red (may require more than 1 try);
2. On the iPhone connect to Tello-XXXX wifi network, app will show Red warning at bottom with a bunch of flickering error codes;
3. With Tello ON, press the power button for 5 seconds, and let it reboot. It'll go dark. Press power button again and connect to Tello-XXXX again in iPhone wifi settings;
4. Launch the Tello app, which will start what it's seeing through the camera.

It will fly, now.

NOTE: This process may have drained the battery to a low level, which won't allow these wifi connections to establish. Just recharge the battery and try again. If you have extras, just swap in a fresh one, and recharge after getting the bird brains back in order...
