Yes, they are exactly the same.
Keep in mind there are two different motors on the Phantom, counter clock wise and clock wise (CWW and CW)
From what I can tell the motors don't really wear out.
The bearings in the motors do wear out.
When that happens you can either replace the motor, or replace the bearings. As I understand it, there are better bearings on the market that are more efficient, and last longer.
When a bearing goes bad it is obvious, and loud. (So I am told)
