Simple editing without changing format

I'm looking for a simple editor to cut down long clips without changing the format. I've been using Windows Movie Maker, but I can't seem to get it to save with the original attributes.

+1 on avidemux. It's free and for cropping video without changing compression it works well. A little obnoxious to use though but I haven't updated my version in years so it may have improved.
