I can see the advantages of having the arm lights turned on in low light conditions but do they need to be on during the day by law? I ask because ive been think about ways to save power during flight by shutting down unnecessary features including the vision positioning system.

While searching to find info on this i saw in an old phantom 2 thread that soneone had a motor power disconnect and the red led on that was flashing. Does the P3 also do that?

Edit* on that arm was flashing*

LEDs take very little power. You won't see any savings by turning them off. As WV said, video quality is the advantage of turning them off.

It is fine to turn off the front lights. They interfere with video/ picture taking, so turn them off.
Good point and thats mainly why i bought the Phantom so i can use the camera. Its a whole new world up there!

I doubt turning them off would add much air time. I rely on them for orientation.
Ya i realize the power they would consume is irrelevant as it's very minimal but every drop of power counts in an emergency. I've also decided to leave vision positioning off as it's pretty much useless to me and from what I've read in other threads it just irritates birds.
