I have a stock phantom with a 600mw. I did a range test and I got about
1/2 a mile b4 the picture broke up. I got over a mile with my other quad with the same set up. I'm going to get a 5.8 ground station and see if that improves the range.

Antenna placement is pretty critical, avoid having the vtx antenna too close to your RX antenna. Also try and find a way that it doesnt get blocked by the camera or phantoms body. Larger quads normally allow better separation between antennas and so this could be your main difference between the 2.
