Before I make my first flight I want to make sure the camera is all set. I purchased a sd card reader to use with my computer, do I have to format the card before I see the photos and videos?

No. Just plug it into the reader after flying

Formatting the memory card removes everything on it. If you'd ever like to do that, it would be best to do it from the following section of DJI GO:
